Happy Spring!

Happy Spring! On your Bird’s-eye view calendar this month is a cute White-breasted Woodswallow. These excellent little fliers look like triangles in the sky and are fearless!

Right now, you will find them trying to take out Kookaburras or other birds who may prey on them or their young.

You may also find them snuggled together on a tree branch, sometimes 20 to 30 at once! They are amazing to watch.

The Woodswallow on your calendar was one of many Woodswallow visitors to our backyard last year. They were rarely still! I photographed the Woodswallow on your calendar while it was having a brief stint of sunbathing. It was fascinating to watch a group of them compete with the Butcherbirds and Spangled Drongo to catch bees from our hives. Not so great for the bees!

Spangled Drongo and White-breasted Woodswallow see who can spot the bee first! (C) Mel Hyde, 2023.

A friendly September reminder for anyone interested in purchasing 2024 calendars or Christmas cards this year, I have only a limited number in stock. Please let me know early if you are wanting either of these so that I can make sure I have them available for you. You can order them direct from me (send me an email – details on the contact page) or on my Etsy shop.

I hope you enjoy your start to spring and spot some Woodswallows of your own.
