June – Month of Wrens

Welcome to June, friends! I hope your month is shaping up nicely. This month on your calendar you would have noticed a beautiful male Variegated Fairywren. If not, this is your reminder to turn the page!

I’ve had a lot of wren encounters since this photo was taken, but at the time I was so proud that I managed to take a photo that was in focus. These wrens move far too quickly for me! At the time, I also did not know there was a continuous shooting option on my camera which makes it SO much easier to capture moving birds.

One of the special experiences I’ve had is what I call the wren tree. I happened to be standing next to a bare tree and a ‘herd’ of Variegated Fairywrens (yes, that is the collective name for a group of wrens or a ‘chime’) landed in the tree. It was magic! That experience inspired my latest drawing which I called ‘Double Trouble’ of two male Variegated Fairywrens, having a bit of a stand-off or sitting looking cute – you decide. Hope you like it!

Prints and also products (mugs, cushion cover, tote bag, scarf etc) featuring these Variegated Fairywrens will be available soon. You can order direct from me or from my Etsy Shop. I’ve included some example pics below with and without a background.

Have a great Winter month.
