Happy 2025 everyone! I am happy to be back from holidays and sharing another year of my bird photos with you. Thank you for your support and I hope you enjoy the stories behind the photos this year.
We kick off the year in our Bird’s-eye view calendar with a Brahminy Kite taken on the north of Bribie Island. This beautiful raptor was very obliging and just sat so still as it searched the waves and the beach for movement. It did not seem to mind me being on an opposite sand dune as I tried to get close enough to get a clear photo.
As always, branches were not my friend! Often-times I end up with photos where the branch is beautifully clear and the bird is a blur. Happily, I managed some in-focus images of the Brahminy Kite itself for the calendar.
I chose this image because it gives me such a sense of peace and of presence – the Brahminy Kite is totally in the moment. The soft blue-grey background adds to that feeling of calm. The colours of the bird are also beautiful – that shimmering bronze of its wings when the sunlight hits its feathers is magic.
I hope you love the image as much as I do!
