Happy March, friends! This month we have a gorgeous Satin Bowerbird to look at. They are incredibly striking, especially their eyes. This photo was the first time I ever saw a Satin Bowerbird. I thought it was a female because there was also a male feeding with it (who I of course did not manage to capture). Males are iridescent blue-purple-black in colour, with those striking purple eyes (see trusty ebird). I’ve since learned that the bird in your calendar could be a female or a young juvenile male. It takes males seven years to develop their dark feathers!
Since I first took the picture for your Bird’s-eye view calendar, I visited Bellthorpe Stays again and had some great encounters with male Satin Bowerbirds (see pic below), and saw a bower that was so amazing and intricate.
What else is happening in March? I’ve ventured into the world of pet/favourit animal portrait commissions. I hope to share some of these on my Facebook art page over the coming months. If you’d like to book one in, let me know!
Hope your month is an awesome one 🙂
