Happy February! I hope everyone is safe in all the floods, storms, and whatever else nature has given us recently.
This month your calendar pin-up is an Eastern Yellow Robin. They are vibrant little birds with some distinctive calls that are worth knowing if you are looking to find one. You can listen on ebird if you are interested.
I took this photo at Bellthorpe Stays next to one of the walking tracks. The Eastern Yellow Robins are in abundance there, especially around the Bowerbird cabin I stayed in. Lots of photo opportunities!
This photo is a favourite of mine and there are many elements about it that I love – the intensity of the Eastern Yellow Robin’s stare, the back lighting, the background that almost seems like there are flames, and the rusty stake the robin is perched on. I like it too because it is not the usual photo I would get of an Eastern Yellow Robin perched on the side of a tree, which they are very good at doing!
